I'm joining the several people who cannot open attachments (any) in Windows Mail after installing IE 8. I have Vista 64. I don't want to go back to IE 7 just to download my attachments as I can save them to my HD while I wait for a fix. I do like the new features on IE 8. My other 3 computers have XP and the Outlook Express Mail attachments open just fine with IE 8. The problem lays within IE 8 with Visa. You've posted to the Forum for IE for Mac instead of IE for Windows. Please re-post in the correct forum. Thanks for the tip to save the attachment to the hard drive, but I sure hope a fix comes out soon. You've posted to the IE for Mac forum. Please repost your question in the appropriate location. This is my first time ever replying to one of these, but i had the same exact problem and wanted to help. " Can't open attachments and could not download anything" after I downloaded internet explorer. I searched every place on the net and found nothing. I remembered mt brother saying something about the 64-bit when i last saw him, and I figured it out. I'm 99% sure this is everyones problem. When you download IE8 there will be 2 different types of internet explorer on your comp. One is the regular IE and the other is the 64-bit IE. you have to be using the 64-bit one to be able to download and open attachments. That is what worked for me.
