Well you can try the usual troubleshooting:
- reboot
- check if moving the preferences to the desktop corrects the issue.
- try deactivating some of your Internet plug-ins
- try deleting the IE cache (though I can't remember where it was
located in MacOS 9).
Obviously, somethign got corrupted on your Mac since it was working just
fine until then.
