Not sure if this is the right forum, but... Recently bought a mac, and have
used windows (from 3.0 to xp) for almost 20 yrs.  How in tarnation do you
set up folders, like for documents, spreadsheets, pdf's on a mac?  It dumps
everything into one folder regardless of what it is.

Thanks, Matt

I'm not sure I understadn your question... You want to create different
download folders for IE??

Well I don't think you can..... In addition to the fact that IE for Mac
has been abandonned a long time ago by MS now, I don't remember ever
seeing this,

Actually, I don't remember seeing this in other Mac browsers either.
In OmniWeb you can set different folder (on a per site basis), but
tha'ts about it.
There is a neat workaround though: you can create "folder action
scripts" in the Finder for your download folder, sending all PDF to a
PDF subfolder, etc (check the Help for the FInder - this is accessible
in the contextual menus by ctrl-clicking the Download folder)

Actually, IE has nothing to do with it.  I was thinking of "Windows
Explorer" where one has a view of each of the directories in different
folders.  It appears this is a forum for IE, so thank you for your response,
but I think I need to look elsewhere.

Well then my reply still stands. You can mimic that through
ActionScripts tied to folders. Any file dumped there can then be
organized depending on file-type.
Fairly easy to setup :-)

You can also sort by kind of course (in list mode)

Yes, as Corentin mentioned, in your own Documents folder (notice the absence
of the demeaning "My"?), create a few Smart folders for each document type.
(Assuming OS X 10.4 Tiger, or later.)
The originals will remain in your own Documents folder, but the Smart
folders will only contain the type of files you specify, as aliases
(shortcuts).
You could also have a Smart folder for the last 30 days...
(I find this helps a lot!)

If you view by name, or sort by name, adding a space as the first character,
will keep it at the top of the list (or maybe this has this been broken?).
