I have tried several downloads from a couple sites that still have IE
5.2.3 (I use the lastest OS X). But when I try to open the IE browser
it stalls about two thirds of the way through every time. Can onyone
help out there?

It's a piece of crap even when it works.

I haven't seen that yet. Even on MacIntel, I have no problem running the
app (it's more than a bit outdated by now, but it runs).

Have you tried repairing Permissions through DiskUtility??
I really don't see why it wouldn't run,

Drag /Users/<Your User>/Library/Preferences/com.apple.internetconfig.plist
and com.microsoft.explorer.plist to the Desktop.  Re-launch Internet
Explorer and see if it crashes.  If it crashes, move the Internet
Preferences files back.  If it works properly, you can trash the Internet
Preferences files.

Try moving the following folder to the Desktop.  If it helps, delete it, but
move the "Favorites.html" file out first.  Drag it into the new Explorer
Folder that is created automatically.  If not, move it back.
/Users/<Your User>/Library/Preferences/Explorer/

Try repairing permissions.
For OS 10.2+:
Go to Macintosh HD/Applications/Utilities.  Open up Disk Utility.  Select
your hard disk, then click the First Aid tab.   Click the button to "Repair
Disk Permissions".

For OS 10.1.5:
Download the Repair Privileges utility, free from Apple, and run it:
<http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=106900>

Run Disk First Aid.  Instructions on how to run it in OS X are located on
the Apple Knowledge Base.

:frown::frown::frown: too,

You should give us with a lot more detail than just "can't update"

What version of MacOS X, what version of IE are you trying to update and
to what version, where did you get the new one (considering that MS
abandonned IE for Mac years ago), how are you attempting to
update????????
