I work with the visually impaired and I have a client interested in
purchasing a computer. Can someone tell me what type of computer would be
best for her.

Well I wonder whether you selected the proper newsgroup for that... This
newsgroup is a Mac IE newsgroup, so don;t be surprised if people suggest
using a Mac ;-)

I would use any Mac running MacOS X 10.4. There are a bunch of features
for visually impaired including support for assistive devices. MacOS X
also has support for text-to-speech (in English).

Announcements for the next version of MacOS X mentioned an even better
integrations of all these features,
