I'm running Internet Explorer 5 on a Mac G4, and recently I have
experienced problems on a number of websites I've visited. The webpage
will open, but I am unable to activate buttons that are designed to
allow navigation around these sites. Is this because I am running an
older version of IE, or is there a problem with my IE software. I
recently defragmented my hard drive; is it possible that the software
has become corrupted as a result.
Any help would be much appreciated.

It's possible your IE is corrupted in some way but I think it unlikely.
I occasionally have this problem with IE (I use 5.1.6) too, but tend to
blame the code in these web pages. It's easy enough to create a link that
will work in all web browsers, but these days you seem to need a suite of
web browsers to cope.
My favourite web browser is Netscape but I also use IE or Mozilla Wacom
for certain sites.
Your defragmenting exercise is unlikely to be responsible.
