First launch of IE in Panther fails everytime

Greetings. Anyone know a workaround on this? I put a fresh install of
Panther on a G4 of mine.
Launches Safari perfectly. Launching IE as installed by the OS install
means its initial default boot will be to www.msn.com. Upon launching
IE, it begins loading MSN's site and *always* chokes halfway through in
trying to retrieve some .gif files from the server. i trashed the whole
app and the user preferences, downloaded another copy of IE 5.2.3 from
the MS site, installed, rebooted: exact, same problem. Here's the rub:
safari can go to www.msn.com just fine thank you. Another G4 of mine
(also Panther), with IE, can visit every place on the web EXCEPT
www.msn.com! (of course, I have had the chance to change the home page
in the preferences on this 2nd machine, so it goes to the home page
fine, but duplicates the choke when visiting msn).

Anybody know what's going on, and if there's a workaround?
Thank you. Sorry for the long post.

Believe it or not, MSN.com is now not compatible with Mac IE5.
They encourage Mac users to use other browsers.

That means that if you wish to continue using Internet Explorer 5 for Mac,
it would be in your best interest to change the home page.  When you launch
Internet Explorer, press Command-period (and or the Stop button) to stop the
page from loading.  Then, go to Explorer > Preferences.  Under "Web
Browser", select "Browser Display".  Under "Home Page", change the page (or
click "Use None"), and click OK.

Hi DLC:
You must deactivate the style pages in: Preferences-->Web
content-->style pages.
The page won't display properly, but you can browser.

Apparently the problem is with all versions OS X and the Internet
Explorer browser, at least as initially configured by Microsoft (with
msn.com set as home page). Changing the "home Page" setting to anything
but msn.com does the problem.

Here are the instructions I received from "Peter" at Microsoft tech
Support:

"Effective 01 Jan 2006, we no longer support Internet Explorer for Mac,
however I've included a few steps that you can try that may resolve
your
issues with Internet Explorer."

"1.  Disconnect your connection to the internet
2.  Open Internet Explorer
3.  Click on Explorer in the menu bar
4.  Click on Preferences
5.  In Preferences select Browser Display
6.  In the Home Page area change the Address to something other than
http://www.msn.com, such as http://www.google.com
7.  Click Ok to close the Preferences window and close Internet
Explorer
8.  Reconnect your connection to the internet
9.  Click on the Apple logo at the top left, and then click on System
Preferences
10. In System Preferences, under Internet & Network, click on Network,
then
Configure
11. Under the TCP/IP tab, click Renew DHCP Lease
12. Close System Preferences and open Internet Explorer "

This will solve the opening problems of opening Internet Explorer and
allow you to use it, but any time you attempt to visit msn.com you can
expect the same problem.
