I am having problems with downloading and operating Explorer 5.1.7. I
followed the download instructions, but when I click on the Explorer 5.1.7
icon in the hard disk, the web browser says that it is opening 5.1.7 version
but when I check under the Apple icon for 'About Explorer' it tells me that
I am operating Explorer 5.0. Any suggestions how to properly open version
5.1.7??
Much thanks,
Sharon

Try going to Sherlock and doing a search on your drive for Internet
Explorer. You may have more than one version on your system.
Good Luck,
Ivan

Hello Sharon,
You should click on the Internet explorer 517 icon (Is it still
compressed and do you need to use Stuffit Expander first?
If not, when you click on it, it should show up on your desktop as
something that looks a bit like a floppy icon.
YOu then drag that to your hard drive and that installs it. Version 5.17
says it is version 5. It is only after you install it and click on the
application icon using the two keys (Apple or Command key AND i (letter
i for Information) keys that you can see the version number. I just
renamed the folder Internet Explorer 5.17 and dragged the older version
5 file to the Trash. Hope that helps.

Hi there,
I am having the same problem, except I have OSX and am trying to
install Internet Explorer 5.2.3. It says I have successfully installed
it, but I cannot locate it anywhere and it does not show up on my
desktop or anywhere when I do a search through my hard drive. I even
tried getting rid of my old Internet Explorer and that didn't change
anything. I also tried restarting my computer with no results. The only
thing I have is the downloaded file on my desktop and the installer
file that came out of it. I am very frustrated! Any new ideas?

My IE5.1.6 correctly reports the version in About Explorer.
It sounds like you may have 2 versions and getting them muddled. Check
the versions via Get Info in the Finder. Delete 5.0 - it has no
advantages over 5.1 that I'm aware of.

The reason you are all having so many problems is because microsoft
removed the download links for all versions of Internet Explorer for
the Mac. It took me forever to find the links to actually download the
browser because most sites just link to Microsoft. Here is a site that
you can download Internet Explorer for the MAC.
OS8-9: http://browsers.evolt.org/?ie/mac/5.1.7_Classic
All other versions of IE for mac can be found here

Many people have tried downgrading to 5.1.6 with success. You can
download it from the previous post.
Also try 'iCab' (http://www.icab.de/) as an alternative.
