I am using an ibook G4 with Internet Explorer 5.2, and DirecWay as my
ISP.  When I try and attach a photo in my email the little black and
white ball just keeps spinning like it is working on it, on a good day
it will take about 10 minutes to attach, but most often I get a message
saying "bad gateway".  When I had AOL the pictures would attach in an
instant.  It is really frustrating.  What is going on.  It also did it
with my older ibook running 10.2.8

Since you're referring to IE for your email, are you using a webmail
service? Webmail services of any kind will upload your file to the email
server during the attachment process. Once the file is uploaded then you
can continue with your message and send it.

AOL acts more like a true email client in that it allows you to compose
the message, attach files and then upload everything to the email server
in the end. (The wait time for both to upload would be about the same,
but the order of events is different.)

Unfortunately, I don't have any experience with the "bad gateway" error,
but a quick search on the Interweb suggests that this may be a server
configuration problem and therefore you may need to bring this to the
attention of your ISP or email service provider. Have you also verified
that your file doesn't exceed your email storage quota?

Hope this helps! bill
