IE 5.2 has been crashing at startup.  I tried updating it at microsoft,
but it didn't help.  Sometime said to delete the prefs file in Library,
but that didn't help.  Please advise.

Drag Macintosh HD/Users/<Your
User>/Library/Preferences/com.apple.internetconfig.plist and
com.microsoft.explorer.plist to the Desktop.  Re-launch Internet Explorer
and see if it crashes.  If it still crashes, move the Internet Preferences
files back.  If it does not, you can trash the Internet Preferences files.

If that doesn't help, try quitting Internet Explorer and moving the Explorer
Folder (Macintosh HD/Users/<Your User>/Library/Preferences:Explorer) to the
Desktop. Re-launch Internet Explorer and see if it helps.  If so, you can
move your favorites back by dragging the Favorites.html file from the
Desktop "Explorer" folder to the new one in the Preferences folder.

Try repairing permissions.
For OS 10.2/10.3:
Go to Macintosh HD/Applications/Utilities.  Open up Disk Utility.  Select
your hard disk, then click the First Aid tab.   Click the button to "Repair
Disk Permissions".

For OS 10.1.5:
Download the Repair Privileges utility, free from Apple, and run it:

Run Disk First Aid.  Instructions on how to run it in OS X are located on
the Apple Knowledge Base.

Thanks Mickey.  The very first thing you said to do solved the crash
(deleting the internetconfig preference).

I recently started having the same problem. When I launch IE, a browser
window comes up for a few seconds and then the application crashes. I
downloaded a new version of IE. That didn't work. I checked my hard drive
for problems. None. I even reinstalled my system software and re-updated it.
Still doesn't fix the problem. Is anyone else having the same problem? More
important, does anyone have a solution?

FYI: I'm using Safari for now, and it works fine.
