when I try to launch explorer it bounces once, then stops. Attempt
failed!!!! I don't want to have to erase and reinstall. I tried to
reinstall explorer-- no change. If it helps(you) we had a power outtage
for about 7 hrs before this started and my computer was not shut down
properly. I've also tried aligning hardware
w/"p,r,option,apple" keys and repairing permissions.

Drag /Users/<Your User>/Library/Preferences/com.apple.internetconfig.plist
and com.microsoft.explorer.plist to the Desktop.  Re-launch Internet
Explorer and see if it crashes.  If it still does, move the Internet
Preferences files back.  If it does not crash, you can trash the Internet
Preferences files.

Run Disk First Aid.  Instructions on how to run it in OS X are located on
the Apple Knowledge Base.
