I have a PowerBook G4, Mac OS X 10.3.6

Using Outlook 5.0.6, I am not able to work out the problem with my
spellchecker. In my preference options the spell tab is grayed out??
Anyone please how do I correct this problem??

Thank you big time in advance

IIRC, Outlook Express (I assume that is what you are referring to) uses
Word's spell checker, so you have to have Word installed for spell
checking to work. Since OE is a Classic program, it would also need a
Classic version of Word (I guess).

I believe you're correct Emily. I just checked my OE 5.0.6 preferences
and the Spelling tab and its options are available to me. However, I
also see that the spell checker being used is the one that came with my
Office 2001 installation (Microsoft Office 2001:Shared
Applications:Outlook Proofing Tools).

Of course, if the OP's OE installation always had spell check access
without having Word or Office installed, then there must be another
issue at work, such as making sure the spell checker tool is in the
proper place, any necessary MS OS 9 extensions are correctly installed
and working, etc.
