I'm getting a lot of freezes lately using realPlayer G8, and today using a
WinMediaPlayer plug-in (I think). And in normal use, IE freezes every
couple of days.
I reinstalled OS9 7 weeks ago and reinstalled RealPlayerG8 and other
programs slowly and with extensions off when I could. Things were pretty
smooth for a couple of weeks, but now it's just reciculous how often the
computer freezes. I realise RealPlayer could be the culprit, but today
while it kept freezing every 10 minutes or so while Windows Media Player
was running within Explorer while I was listening to an Austin City Limits
stream-cast.
I have a Mac 6500/250 maxed at 128mb RAM on SBC dsl here in Los Angeles.
Any advice? Go to IE 5.1.7 (can you uninstall 5.1.6?) Any articles on
this anywhere? Thank you for the help. nathan

IE 5.1.6 freezing in OS9.1Hi,
Search for the internet application on the harddisk and delete all the files related to that application, This way you can delete Internet Explorer. Then copy the downloaded IE on to the Harddisk.
Also try upgrading memory to the Internet Explorer. To do that Select the Internet Explorer and goto file menu and select Get info tab and it will take you to general information window. There memory tab and try increasing the preferred size ( memory) and try relaunching the application.
Also you can try deleting internet Explorer preferences and check.

You can have as many versions and browsers as you want.
IE5.1.x is a nice simple drag and drop installation.
I agree with the other post about increasing memory allocation, and
deleting prefs files.
I've found IE5.1.6 pretty stable personally when used with OS7.5.5, 8.1,
8.5.1 & 9.2.2
I have had trouble with Windows Media Player locking up but not tried to
solve it yet.
