Hi All,

Over the weekend I was backing up my files onto an external HD. Just
after setting up the transfer, the firewire connection was jiggled and
failed which deleted the drive. Unfortunately the mac is now telling me
that the drive is not readable, even after restarting the computer.

I know there are HD rescue programs, however I don't think this is
needed. Does anyone know of the best way to get back the files from this
drive?

Thanks, Dave

There is a chance that Alsoft's DiskWarrior can rebuild the directory.

Agreed. Heck, it doesn't sound as though the OP has even tried Disk
Utility yet. If that's the case, it's possible that would be all it
takes. I'm a bit confused, though. If the external drive is a backup,
why is there a need to recover files from it in the first place? I'd
just try erasing it and starting over.

HI, thanks for all your input. Good you mentioned Disk Utility as I
thought that would do it, however I am not using the drive as just a
backup. I do not have foolproof backing up procedures so unfortunately
there are other files that were on there were my only copy. Overall the
drive gets little use, however there is need for a double backup.
