Has the Aluminum Keyboard Update fixed the issue that Mac Minis have with the
Aluminum keyboard?

The Aluminum USB keyboard would not allow the Mini to recognize start-up keys
(such as "C" for booting from CD/DVD; Opt for choosing a boot volume; "T" for
target mode; etc).

Has this update fixed this issue?

Thanks,

I have not had the need to try it in target mode, but the others are
just fine.

I think that was fixed even before the keyboard firmware update.

It might depend on the Mac Mini revision. My August 2007 Mini was
already working fine with special startup keys on an aluminium wireless
keyboard, before I updated the keyboard firmware.

Older Mini models might need their own firmware updated in order to
recognise newer keyboards, but it is possible that the keyboard firmware
update might have allowed older Macs to recognise the new keyboard.

I have installed several keyboard and Mini updates, and startup keys
still won't work. (1.66 ghz, Core Duo.)

That's the first Intel Mac Mini model, so the implication is that the
keyboard firmware update didn't change anything regarding recognition of
startup keys by older Mac Mini models.

It is most likely that the only way this would be resolved is if Apple
released a firmware update for older Mac Mini models to recognise the
aluminium keyboard at startup.

It seems that they work fine with the latest model (Mid 2007 1.83/2.0
GHz Core2 Duo, which was introduced at the same time as the aluminium
keyboard). That is probably the only Mac Mini model (so far) which fully
supports these keyboards.
