My friend's printer has stopped printing. It was working ok at one
point, but when she came to print something else half an hour later she
couldn't and hasn't been able to print since.
It's hard to diagnose from a distance, but she seems to have tried all
the obvious things.
The printer (Epson Color 740) will print a test page. Changing the USB
socket doesn't help. The computer can see the printer to the extent that
it wcan read the ink levels and they are ok.
When she goes to Printer Setup Utility, the printer showe as stopped.
She showed jobs, deleted the stopped job, and then went to Start Jobs.
But when she tried to print again, the job again stopped immediately.
She has tried printing from another program.
She has deleted the printer and added it back.
She has deleted all com.apple.print preferences.
She has tried logging in as another user.
She has, she tells me, tried using a different font.
Nothing worked.
What else is left? Can anyone suggest other options?
She has not yet tried repairing permissions, or using the Printer Setup
Repair programs - I have only just suggested these.

Unplug all (that is, from the wall !) and restart.
Still no? Download a new driver and install.
Still no? ?? Printer Utility in Prefs?
Gotta tellya, the 'font substitution' made me chuckle, until I realized it
actually could be.

She has swirched everything off and on a few times, though not actually
unplugged.
And all preferences deleted. Anyway, as she can't print from her other
account, it shouldn't be the preferences.
I am inclined to say it's a damaged driver.
Possibly a corrupted font (she actually got a message that some font was
corrupted when connecting to AOL Radio) though she did try changing
fonts.
I have now asked her to use Font Book yo check all the fonts.
Some day I will go up to Leopard (I don't think it's ready for full use
yet), and I believe Share Screen will be possible even though she is on
Tiger. Then I can at least see what is happening.
Thanks for the suggestions.

Yes, of course. I said she had tried the obvious things.
I agree that some of the most obvious things can easily be missed, and
in fact that was an issuewhenshe first got the printer and had trouble
getting it recognised.
I haven't heard from her lately about it, but have found out that Apple
mentions an isue with that particular printer, and suggested something
she had not tried.
