i come before you prostate and defeated, YA victim of the pretty
poisoned LaCie d2.
I have a nice shiny new 24 gHz MBP and an equally shiny new La Cie d2
drive which i picked up at the Apfelhaus when i got the mbp.
And of course, i can't seem to get the friggin drve to see the
lightscribe media. I can see the blank DVD when i put it in, just not
the lightscribe side.
As near as i can tell i've run/checked etc for the right software and
updates and firmware stuff. Obviously i've missed something.
I would be thankful for any help; i've been flailing around with this on
and off since about a month before leopard shipped.

Um. I hope you meant prostrate. Because if not, you know, ick.

All media aren't created equal. Are you sure, first off, that it's a
Lightscribe disc? If so, what brand?

Max-
Please forgive me for saying this: you have to physically turn the
Lightscribe disk over, so the label side is facing down. It uses the
same laser for Lightscribe as for burning.
I had to learn this the hard way!

thanks all ... yes, it was turned on and over. :-)
I eventually figured out that the installer script was asking me a BS
misleading question when i was trying to update: it would ask me if i
wanted to install an earlier update over a later update.
I was in fact trying to install the latest update over an earlier
version, but based on the prompt i naturally answered NO. Once I
spotted the discrepancy in file dates /version numers i installed over
the "newer" file and viola.
I find writing the label two or three times per disc helps with image
quality considerably. the process is slow enough to begin with and this
makes it like frozen molasses but i'm getting pretty nice results.

I wasn't aware that you could do that.
I've been using Verbatim LightScribe CDs with fairly good results.
Someone gave me some Hewlett Packard CDs, and the image is somewhat
weaker. I'll have to try a second burn on one of them.
The first time I tried one of the HP CDs, the program objected. It
suggested that I should look for a program update. I followed the
provided link and downloaded an update for LightScribe System Software,
at http://www.lightscribe.com/downloadSection/. Now it at least burns
the label, even if it is a bit weak.
I just looked at that web site, and see an even newer version has since
been released.
