My daughter's Powerbook Titanium, running 10.4.10, has been freezing a
lot lately.  I am having difficulty tracking down the problem - running
Permissions repair, Disk Utility Repair Disk and Disk Warrior.  No
significant problems found.  I also ran the Hardware Utility that came
with it.  Again, no problems.

It worked flawlessly for well over a month that we had it, but has been
having up to multiple freezes daily for the last week or so.  I checked
the ram to make sure they were well seated.  Seemed fine.

At least once, when it froze, we noticed a grey bar at the top of the
screen, perhaps half the depth of the top command menu bar.  Any
thoughts?

Also, we are not sure the fan has been running.  Is there any way to
turn it on or off, or to otherwise check if the fan is running.  Just a
thought that perhaps it has been heating up.

We did try removing the Zwire wifi card to see if there was a conflict.
But the freezes seem to happen with or without it.

I understand that 10.4.9 had some freezing problems, has this continued
on to 10.4.10?  I see that an update to 10.4.11 has recently become
available - maybe updating would be helpful.  However, I thought I would
inquire first.

Meanwhile I have not had any problems with my Powerbook Titanium Onyx
while running 10.4.10.

Ideas?

As always, thanks bunches.

Sounds like the problem to me. Heat that is. Do you have iStat wiget?
Will show the temps and fan speeds.

No I don't have that widget, but I will look for it.

If it is the heat/fan broken, does anyone know if it can be replaced?  I
have another Titanium 400mz (died of Pink Screen) which I might be able
to use for parts.
