I just bought my first-ever battery backup unit (an APC brand 750A
model). The inspection sheet taped to it is dated 11-17-05. Is this
normal? Is the battery as good as new when it's been sitting on a shelf
for two years? (One terminal needed to be connected by me, the consumer,
per the instructions.)

If you want to be sure, contact APC.  My (non-APC) UPS batteries lasted
something over 5 years.

While its true that "you can't fix stupid", apparently you
can package it up and sell it. -- fnorgby on TMBO

You'd have to measure it with a meter to be sure.  If it's fallen to
less than 5-6v it may be gone forever.  But you may get lucky.  Just
plug it in for a day or so, and see if it will sustain a load on it.

Thats the normal way to ship the backs ups. On the other hand I don't
know the shelf life of the unused battery. You might try looking up
the Manufacturer and see if they have info on their web page.

Depends on the type of battery.  Many gel-cells are surprisingly stable
holding a small charge for years.
