Repair memory card with images

I have a memory card here I just am not able to read. I took pictures
and they looked right in the camera, but when I connect it to my card
reader (connected to my 10.4 ibook), it said the drive needed to be
formated. Confused, I ejected it and tried it back on the camera. Now
it too could not read it. How can I retrieve data out of that card?
