Help please! Our of nowhere, today I couldn't burn a CD to read on my Mac.
Beige G3 333, OS 9.1, Yamaha internal scsi burner, Toast 4.
Selected "Files and Folders" like always.
Drag the document into Toast, and it starts burning away.
Goes along fine, goes through finalization, finishes, "disc is ready" and
dings to eject.
But then when I put it in to use it, I get the message saying disc is not
recognized, do I want to inilialize it?

I tried three times.  Any help or suggestions are greatly appreciated!

Every so often I see this but its usually due to cheap media.

Alternately, you may have overburned (too much on one CD) or there was
a data under-run (data feed could not keep up with the burn process).
See below.

Both can cause that problem.

Ultimately, check them on another computer to see if its just a flaw
in the drive you have or the software in use.

My G3 came with a stock drive that would not burn (read only).  The
prior owner (known to me - I got the system from a friend), installed
a Sony CDRW but it had limited success with a hacked extension I got
at www.xlr8yourmac.com.  The problem went away when I got Toast 5 and
removed the Apple burn extension.  Burns fine now.

At the same time, I always burn at a SLOW speed because the CDRW is
capable of burning at a faster rate than the system bus can provide.

As such try burning at a slower speed to see if you succeed.

Sometimes they stop working when the lens of the laser gets dirty. It can be
taken apart enough to clean with a cuetip, but it ain't that easy.
