Macally ikey & Logitech USB cordless mouse incompatible..

I just replaced my G4 PMac keyboard with a Macally "iKey" extended
keyboard and when I tried to plug in my Logitech cordless mouse
dongle-thingie into the iKey USB ports.. I got nothing - no mouse action
at all..

The dongle plug felt like it wasn't into the USB port deep enough.  So I
Dremel-ize my brand new keyboard to make the mouse work.. No big deal
(not even a cosmetic issue) but it brought to mind a couple of questions..

1.  Are the Macally ikey ports too recessed or is the Logitech cordless
mouse dongle plug not deep/skinny enough?

2.  Is this a common problem with some USB products that I need to watch
out for?  (Must be a USB plug/port standard out there somewhere.. )  I
am planning to get a USB scanner and external HD, a hub .. so I am
curious if there's something here I need be mindful of.

3.  Are there such things as male to female USB connection extenders
that fix this problem without surgery?

thanks in advance..

As a point of reference, I'm using a Logitech MX-610 cordless mouse with a
Macally "iMediaKey" keyboard with no problems at all.

IMPORTANT QUESTION:
Does the mouse work when you plug its dongle into a _regular_ USB port on the
Mac itself?

Dunno.. don't have a free port at the moment.. The Logitech cordless
mouse (super-sweet.. nicest mouse I've ever had on ANY system) is
working just fine NOW - post-op - and it worked fine with the original
Apple keyboard.

The business part of the ports on the iKey are clearly recessed.
Literally.. the translucent casing makes that plainly visible.  And
prior to surgery, the plug felt loose - like it wasn't plugged in all
the way.

When I get a hub, I'll bring it off the Mac rather than the keyboard..
should be no problems.

BTW.. I like the iKey keyboard very much.  An iddy bit on the stiff side
as keyboards go.  I tend to have fewer typos with stiffer keyboards..
fewer accidental strokes.

I use the iKey k'board and a Logitech cordless mouse. Unlike you I did
get an error message trying to use the mouse via the kb - "Not enough
power for this device". I use the mouse via a hub ever since, without
further problems. The kb works great by itself.

FWIW I use a Logitec cordless optical mouse with the receiver plugged
into a macally netkey keyboard.  No problems, never have been.
