Cleaning an Apple Keyboard

I have a disgustingly filthy Apple KB, model A1048. It has dust bunnies
running around its clear base and although nothing has ever been spilt
upon it, the keys do not operate as smoothly as they should.

I recently bought a Macally keyboard and it is great. But I really like
the Apple KB and its nice desk-space-conserving profile. I have found
several keyboard-cleaning web sites, but none are specifically for this
model KB.

Should I just open it up and start blowing compressed air around? I
don't think I need to do much more than wipe the keys off with warm
water, but what "gotchas" do I need to watch out for?

Any constructive advice would be greatly appreciated. TIA.

Open it up, and vacuum it.

Then likely if it's had enough use, you may need to scrub it.  I tend
to use "Q-tips" and rubbing alcohol.

There often is sticky stuff off fingers that get in there, and any
drops of drink, and that stickiness tends to make the keys work
un-smoothly.

There shouldn't be a need to open up the actual keytops. I can't recall
ever having to do that with a computer keyboard, not matter what it
was for.  Just open the keyboard case, and clean it up.
