Might be easier to get an external USB or Firewire (if this model
supports FW) media burner.  There was a thread here recently on choosing
the right model that supports the usual assortment of Apple software.

Try somewhere like www.macsales.com, who list upgrade options for a
variety of Mac models.

Note that with an iMac G3, it is only practical to use a DVD burner as a
data storage device. The computer isn't fast enough to run DVD-Video
creation software like iDVD, which requires a reasonably fast G4
processor to do the MPEG-2 encoding.
