How many of Hours of Voice Recording on a 60GB IPOD???
I need to record lectures. How many hours of voice recording can I get
on an iPod?
How good is an iPod for lecture recording?
Can I hook up a REGULAR external microphone to it or do I need a special
iPod one?
Are there any cheaper/better voice recorders out there that will convert
to MP3 or similar and work with a Mac?

A ton. I've been using a Belkin iPod mic on an older iPOD and at mono
16-bit/8Khz you get about 50MB per hour. So you'd have no prob storing
1000 hours of lectures on your 60GB iPod. I've basically stored my
entire MBA program in audio files and it's been a godsend.
Advice - If you have a soft-spoken professor, sit close.

But first check to make sure he's not carrying a big stick.

What bitrate will you be making the recordings at?
If it's 128, then you'll be able to record just over 1,000 hours.

I'd say no good at all, since it doesn't come with a mic in the box and
doesn't have any kind of line-in, so you'll have to pay extra to get
that feature.

You need a special iPod one, or at least a special iPod adapter.

Check iTunes.com. If I remember right, they have a list of supported MP3
players somewhere.

The thing you have to consider the most is the drain on the battery
external mics put on the iPod. I bought a 4G to record lectures and
the battery would last between 5 - 6 hours before it needed to be
charged. If I just used the iPod for music playback the battery lasted
about three times that, the drain, according to Mac support, was the
mic. So if you're going to be on campus all day, recording several
classes, bring a charging cable.
