When I load the main page, I get a broken QT graphic where the main
content usually is, and none of the movie trailers work anymore.

What have they changed? Running 10.2.8, QT 6.5.2 Pro, 500mhz processor,
512mb ram. That should play h.264 right?

Please don't tell me they have dumped support for anything less than QT
7, because my machine won't do 10.3.9.

Thanks for any info!

Forgot to mention I'm using Firefox 1.5.0.3.

Not right. H.264 support, AFAIR, was introduced to QT at 7.0. And you'd
need a faster machine to actually do the decoding in watchable time.

You'll have to choose lower quality movies to watch. But what 500MHz
machine do you have that can't cope with 10.3?

Actually, a 7300 with a sonnet 500mhz G3 upgrade processor (and a 16mb
ATI Rage 128) that's running 10.2.8 by using XpostFacto 4. 10.2 will
install and operate no problem and quite smoothly, but I haven't had
any luck getting Panther to install at all.

Thanks for the information, at least, now I know that I need a newer
machine to do h.264. I must have been thinking h.263.

I guess what seemed odd is that things which worked before stopped
working. Apple must have moved their site over in a big way to the new
codec, I guess?

They're certainly pushing it, for their own benefit as well as the
improved experience for users with newer machines, but most if not all
of the content (new included) is still being made available in lower
quality modes.

Apparrently, not even with Panther 10.3.9, but, if you want to view
h.264 easily, just view in Real Player...yes! that is right, the clunky
(compared to QT in the past) Real Player. I just watched all the new
Mac TV Commercials and some movie trailers which, I cannot view via
even with QT 7.0.4!
