hi,
i need to remove a zip drive from a G3 powerMAC and need help. there is
a plate on the zip's back end (above the connectors) with circles
(holes) in it.... i think this needs to be removed?
if so how?

(the zip drive is below the cd-rom -- i don't want to (can't) remove the
cd-rom because 1 of the screws is stuck -- any suggestions???))

is there a diagram anywhere? or could anyone please explain how and what
needs to be removed to take out the zip drive (in 1 piece:)

thanks!

Desktop or tower?

The desktops usually have the devices mounted on a clip-in sled.  You
can press the sled latch and it allows the whole thing to slide right
out.

it's a tower.
i found some 'latches' towards the front.
the users manual only has diagrams for drive position 3(?) on the bottom
of the computer.
thanks again

Is it a G3 B&W ?. If so there are actual photos on websites if you google,
of how to take it apart. On my B&W the back plate on the zip drive just
pulled off, its there for electrical screening.

hi and thank you for replying!
it is a blue and white g3.
the cd-rom drive's back plate pulls off but the zip's does not....
also i found a Web site with photos on installing a zip drive but now i
am stuck at trying to remove the drive tray (for both the cd-rom drive
and the zip drive) from the front....?

do you know whether there are screws on the left side (looking at the
computer from the front) of the tray / cd-rom / zip drive
thanks again
sincerely

You have to pull off the front bezel by pressing in the latchs just inside
the front of the case, this then reveals some screws holding in the drive
sleds. Undo these and the whole cd/zip assembly will slide out from the
front. Dont forget to remove the cables at the rear before you slide it
forward or it wont go very far <g>.

thank you.
i did remove the bezel and 2 screws (the only ones i saw) and i also did
disconnect the cables from both...
it does not slide off or move at all...

Just had another look at manual as it is a while since I did this, it
does mention that carriers may be hard to push forward because of EMI
tape on underside of carrier.

SoRry for 2nd post, forgot to add to other. Have you downloaded the
service manual for the G3 B&W ?

Its here

You really should fix your keyboard first.

Open the side access. Push the two long flaps beside the cdrom and zip
drives outwards. Lift off the face plates in front of the drives. Remove the
screws. The rest is obvious.

>thanks!
