My eMac, G4 800 mHz is beginning to suffer from the dreaded screen
flicker.  My plan is to limp it along till the intel mini is released.
When the screen finally does die, will i be able to use the mini VGA
port on the side to drive an external VGA monitor?

Does it flicker up and down or squeeze in and out? Does it have the new
IVAD cable replacement in it? You can download the pdf. repair manual
here:
http://home.earthlink.net/~strahm_s/manuals.html
Check in the take apart section under IVAD for the common symptoms of
this problem.I have one on my bench right now with this problem. Just
ordered the new IVAD for ~$32 shipped.

Possibly. This one would only boot up for a few seconds until I did a
PMU reset. (see that manual)
There is also a possibility it will just outright die. Check #95169 in
the Knowledge base.

It is doing the squeeze in and out.
I do not know if it has the cable replacement.
I am it's only owner and I have not replaced anything on/in it.

Calvin,
That's exactly what mine is doing also. I ordered that IVAD cable
because I ran the eMac without the outer housing and got the squeeze
fault to occur. It's sensitive to vibration when its happening and
seems to be located in the Display/Analog Assembly end of the IVAD
cable. Next I will pull the Display/Analog Assembly out again! and
resolder that connector and check the circuitry in that area.
The raster shift problem is a pretty well documented problem with the
original eMac. This is a quote from the manual:
'Important:   Take Apart Note: Replace the IVAD cable if the eMac
raster shifts upward  from the bottom of the display or the raster is
jumpy, otherwise leave the cable alone.  Refer to Knowledge Base
article 95168 for more information."
Searching for that Tech note returns nothing. Our problem doesn't seem
to fit that problem but it might be associated with it.
The IVAD box has a cable coming from the logic board, IVAD cable itself
and another one that goes to the back of the CRT.
Have you read anything about what the exact fault is in this cable?
I'll email you to keep you updated. Have you read that site about
overclocking these to 1.3 gigs?

Hey Calvin,
Well I took out the Display/Analog assembly, AGAIN. Resoldered
everything associated with the IVAD connector and it's traces.
Everything around the HOT, flyback, basically the entire left side of
the board. Put it back together and ran Garage band drum beats at full
volume for 3 hours and the display is perfect. The solder on that board
had a slag like film floating on the connections when you reheat the
joints. Some looked so bad I sucked it off and resoldered with silver
bearing solder. It's been running 6 hours now and not a flicker.
Want to buy a IVAD cable, cost?
