I recently recieved an grey (graphite?) CRT IMAC. The original owner
said the sound didnt work. I hoped it was a small problem because
otherwise the machine is in mint condition. I tried headphones ext
out etc... no luck... checked all possible software settings no luck.
Then I had pretty much gave up and was looking on ebay for possible
motherboards to swap into it when I did a firmware upgrade and when I
cleared the pram the machine did make a long tone sound. Does this
mean it is not a hardware problem? Is this a commen problem and I
am overlooking something?
The system is a IMAC with orig 128mb ram (I upgraded it to 354) and a
12gb harddrive with a DVD drive. I'd like to get a copy of OSX and
put in a 80gb barracuda harddrive I have but I want to try to fix the
sound problem first.
thanks for any help

If you can't get the internal sound to work, you can probably get sound by
using an external USB sound device such as the Griffin iMic. Of course,
you would also need external speakers if you went that route.
