  Hi,

I'm configuring a Mac for my mother to use and I want to disable the
second mouse button to simplify the Mac's use for her. From what I've
read, that's a feature of the Mighty Mouse and the reason why I bought
it but I'm new to Mac and I do not know how to do it. Does anybody
knows?

  Thanks and bye.

Install the software that came with the mouse then go to the Mouse pane
of "System Preferences"
.  Set both the left and right buttons to "Primary Button".

The problem is that I've been conned by the seller (the FNAC, a
french store chain) and the Mac they sold me a couple of weeks ago was
used and with the old OS, Panther, and the software that came with the
mouse is only for Tiger. I thought that software was only for special
stuff like the "squeeze" buttons and such but that the regular
functions were available on any Mac... It looks like I've been conned
again :-(

Not present on mine. Thanks anyway...

  Bye and thanks.

Did you try going to the manufacturer's web site to see if you could
download a driver for your system?

The manufacturer is Apple... And no, I did it and Apple does not
make a driver for its own Mighty Mouse to run on its own OS Panther...
Nothing strange form a company that does not even cares if its dealers
con their customer selling them used and obsolete machines as new.

This is getting pretty silly, IMO.  Apple only started including the
Mighty Mouse with Macs with Tiger installed.  Anyone buying an older Mac
with Panther gets the old one-button mouse.  And anyone buying a Mighty
Mouse who bothers to read the system requirements can see plain as day
that it requires at least 10.4.2.

Why are you blaming Apple when the fault is with a dishonest dealer???
Take the Mac back to the store and DEMAND what you have paid for, if you
paid for a new Mac then you have the right to demand one, if they refuse
then take it up with whatever your equivalent of trading standards is in
your country, also if that fails then kick up a stink in your local
paper, just make sure everyone knows the fault lies with the store. you
cannot expect the manufacturer to police each and every outlet.

That does not works because my OS is Panther and Apple only provides
drivers for its last OS, Tiger, and does not support its own
periferials even on previous version of its own OS like Panther.

However somebody in a french Mac group found a workaround for
Apple's lack of supporft of its own devices on its own OS. It's a
little shareware program that let you configure completely your USB
perferials even if Apple has let you down. It works perfectly and it's
full featured even if you do not register, just a snag screen. I give
the url in case anybody has the same problem than me:

  Bye.
