Greetings again! I posted earlier about upgrading our G4 and appreciate all
the responses we got - we're taking everything into consideration and
upgrading a bit at a time as we can afford it.

I have a new problem! I have only opened the computer a few times, but it
seems the latch may be broken. A little plastic piece fell off and now I
have the computer side/door duct taped together - works fine, looks stupid!
Any fixes for this?! I love my mac, but kind of silly to hold it together
with a little plastic hook!

Thanks for any help,
RA

My G4 APG latches in four places. Did you save the piece? Also look for
three other pieces on the floor of the case. That material looks like
styrene to me and can be glued back with a solvent based glue like
Ambroid Pro Weld (hobby shop). I have repaired such parts using a
homemade flatten blade on a soldering iron run at a lower temp via a
dimmer. I scab plastic from other parts of the same mechinism and use
it to weld the parts back together. Tedious work but a lot stronger
than gluing.
An even stronger alternative would be to refabricate the hooks in steel
or aluminum and screw them to the plastic subcarrier.

Another alternative to my other alternatives would be to drill through
the outer case near the top and tap into the metal frame of the
computer. The case could then be secured with knurled (captive?)
thumbscrews. If you did this get someone who knows what they're doing.
A small bit of metal shavings on your motherboard could kill your
computer.
