Hi. The backlight is broken on my 12" G4 Powerbook. I'd like to replace
the bulb, but I don't want to solder and so forth, so I will buy the
part on which the bulb is placed. Anyone know which part this is? (I'm
guessing that it's the inverter cable)

Thanks.

Apologies for the late reply, I just started looking at this group.

There are 3 things that cause a backlight to go off:

1. Blown bulb (unlikely)
2. Backlight cable damaged at the point where it passes through the
hinge (very likely)
3. Blown inverter board (quite likely)

You need to pin down where the fault lies before you can fix it. It
could be a job for your local mac repair shop.

BTW. Replacing a backlight bulb is by far the hardest repair I've ever
attempted. I wouldn't recommend it.  The screen brightness was patchy
afterwards. ...and there is some soldering involved.

Good luck
