Can someone recommend (based on good personal experience) an external cd
burner for osx? My 2x Phillips one is starting to get long in the tooth,
not to mention that it's scsi, and I have to boot into my OS9 disk to
use it. I would not want an Iomega firewire burner (a friend had nothing
but trouble with it), but what about other brands? Whether I get usb or
firewire, I'll still need to plug in yet another power brick, right?
Although I'll probably use the OSX built-in burning feature for simple
burns, will I also be able to use Toast Lite (v4) in Classic with a new
burner?

I don't want scsi. Although I installed the OSX version of the Adaptec
2906 driver, scsi seems to be problematic with OSX (and I'm not the only
one, according to a Google search).

For compatibility information and user feedback regarding optical
drives, consult Accelerate Your Mac's database:

Had you mentioned that you had a G4 tower, I wold have recommended that
you consider replacing your internal optical drive with one of the
fully-supported Pioneer DVD burners.

I have an "old" Que! Fire 24/10/40 from a few years back that works fine
but I don't really use anymore that I'd *give* you if you're in the
Minneapolis area.

I don't know of any that are powered over the wire.

Probably, but I haven't given a damn about Classic for a good 5 years.

Unfortunately I'm in Pennsylvania. Is the Que usb or firewire?
(Remember, I'm trying to get away from scsi.) I don't think much of
Adaptec's OSX driver for the 2906 scsi card. My scanner and burner don't
show up in System Profiler at all in OSX, but they do when I boot up
from my OS9 drive (with the OS9 2906 driver of course).
