I finally retired my DV400 imac.   One small problem with it - plugging
headphones and stereo and monitor into the audio out jack all the time
(as well as having nothing plugged in), the audio out jack got work out
and had intermittent connections.

Now that I have a new imac....  Well, not breaking it would be nice.  :)
Anyone use those USB audio interfaces? (such as griffin's imic) They any
good?  more or less convenient?

Thanks

Desktop computer speakers will be fine connected to the headphone jack,
but you might get really crappy sound if you plug a 1/8"/RCA adapter
into the headphone jack and connect it to the input of a home stereo
system.  In that case, the iMic is better, because it provides the right
signal level for that kind of equipment.  If you only plan on small
desktop speakers the headphone port is fine.

It was more the wear due to constantly plugging and unplugging from the
jack.

btw - if you connect your computer to the home stereo in any way, you'll
probably want a ground loop isolator connected.

I'm using a Creative Audigy 2nx with my Mac Mini.  Although intended for use
with a pc it works just great for me.  I have a little manual USB switch
sitting between the Mac and the PC so it can be used with both.
