Firewall or not, the iTunes and iPod software can be downloaded via the
same port as used to reach the web site in the first place. The OP is
not telling us something and that makes it difficult to help him.

I have to wonder--if he's prevented from downloading, how would the
company feel about him using this software at all?

Maybe so re the port, but it would seem his work place network is
preventing him downloading for obvious reasons
