I have just bought a 350Mhz B/W G3. It is now running 10.3.8
When I put it to sleep the fans are still working so it is not going
into deep sleep like my G4s. Is the G3 capable of doing Deep Sleep?

From <http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=106790>:

About "Deep sleep"

While all PowerBook and iBook computers go into "deep sleep" when Sleep
is selected, some older computers do not. Instead, the display turns off
and the hard drive spins down, but many other components (including the
processor) remain on.

Deep sleep is available on these computers:

   All PowerBook computers
   All iBook computers
Power Mac G4 (AGP Graphics) or later
   iMac (Slot Loading) or later
