Airport Express Question

I'm confused by various things I've read about the Airport Express.  On
Apple's web site, for example, they say "Everyone in your family can
surf the web wire-free because AirPort Express provides simultaneous
wireless Internet access via your DSL or cable modem for up to 10
computers(4)" where footnote 4 says "Wireless Internet access requires
a wireless-enabled computer, a base station or other access point and
Internet access (fees may apply)."  I take this to mean that an Airport
Express by itself cannot replace an Airport Base Station.  Is this
currect?  If I'm on the road with an Airport Express, I take it that I
could connect only 1 laptop to it unless I also took along a router?

I currently have two PowerBooks that connect via Airport Extreme cards
to a snow base station, which is connected to the DSL modem. To take
advantage of the new extreme cards, I want to replace the snow base
station, but I'm not sure if an Airport Express (which is cheaper) will
work or whether I need an Aiport Extreme base station.

Thanks in advance.

No, it means the Airport Express can't let your computer get on the
internet if your computer doesn't have a wireless card.

You can connect more than one computer.  The Express is a router.

You should be able to use the Express just fine.  If cost is an issue
you could always get a 3rd party router like Linksys or Netgear for
about $50.

Nope, the Airport Express is all you need. It's a router in and of
itself.
