Keyboard/mouse for Mac mini?

I have little experience with Macs, so I thought I'd ask here: can the
Mac mini (or other Macs) use regular USB mice and keyboards, or do you
have to get ones specifically designed for Macs? $78 US for a genuine
Apple keyboard and mouse seems a trifle steep.

How about RAM and hard drives? If you wanted to swap out the HD on a mac
mini, would it accept any IDE hard drive, or are there compatibility
issues with this sort of thing?

a) That's not the price for an Apple USB keyboard and mouse. They're $29
each.
b) You can use normal equipment. Part of the point is to sell to people
that already have other machines and thus have a keyboard, mouse and
display they can hook up to it.

It's standard RAM. The HD is a 2.5" (notebook) drive.

I'll probably buy a kvm switch for mine, also plan on getting a large
firewire drive for speed.  I'd leave the 2.5" internal drive alone.  Can't
wait until it gets here!

Sorry, I'd mixed up the dollars - the price on the Apple.ca is $78 CDN,
not US. Still pricey compared to good quality PC parts. Thanks for the info.
