How much do you value your eyes? In my case, I really like
having my sight. As a result, I toss marginal monitors, and
I never use one that strains my eyes. If you are happy as
things are, then keep using it. If you are not happy, then
get a new one. If you have a tube, maybe this is your chance
to upgrade to a flat-screen. They use far less power, but
then again, they are not quite as good as a video tube (in
my opinion), and they are still kind of expensive.

the crts are so cheap now you can find deals all over the place. I just
bought a viewsonic from overstock.com ($2.95 shipping - I love these
guys) and am sooo happy. My old monitor was fading like yours but I
didn't want to spring for a flat screen - and like John (below) I don't
really think they are as good.
Now every time I open a program, I marvel at how bright and pretty and
easy to read!!!

Sterling, did you get that 21 inch refurbished one? Did you also get
the extended warranty? How heavy is it? I have a 19 inch Sony now, and
I can barely move it.

I got the 19" refurb - $14 for 2 year extended warranty. I (a woman,
5'2") can move the viewsonic (carefully) by myself. Moved it upstairs
and onto my desk. I have an old Ikigami that weighs 72-lbs! Takes two
people to move it.
Check out the viewsonic site for weights. I got the GS790 and the info
says it weighs 42 lbs, but it feels more like 30 or 35. It is called a
"short neck" and has appreciably less depth (back to front) than my old Iki.
