Hi all,
I just purchases an Epison Perfection 2580 scanner for my PowerMac G4
(mirrored front, dual 867 Mhz, OSX 10.3.7), and it's just not working.
I installed all drivers on the disk BEFORE connecting the scanner, and
no go. I then downloaded some drivers from the Epson website and still
no go. I rebooted between each attempt just to be safe. The light on
the scanner stays white.
I tried running the Epson Smart Panel software, but it just says
"Please install the support twain drivers". In System Profile it does
show an Epson Scanner connected.
If it won't work I'll have no choice but to return it to the Apple
store I bought it from, but problem is that Apple store is 2 hours
away. I hate having to drive 4 hours (and waste $30 in gas) if it's
not the scanner.
Suggestions on anything else I can try? I'm still rather new to OSX so
I'm not sure if there's something I'm missing. This is the first
hardware device with drivers I've installed.
Thanks,
Ringo

Here's a follow-up. It's still not working, but I can unplug the USB
cable from the mac and the light on the scanner turns green. Plugging
it back in the light turns white. I'm not sure if that means anything.
Is anyone successfully using this scanner with OSX? Thanks,
Ringo

Okay another followup. I did get the scanner working last night after
downloading another Twain driver from the Epson support site. I
downloaded the driver and installed, then rebooted, but no go -- but I
did it once more just to be sure (last resort) and after a reboot it
worked good.
The scanner seems to work good, though some of the colors are a bit
washed out from film negatives. Also it appears the film part only
does 4 pictures while most of my 35mm negatives have 5. I'm not sure
how to scan in that 5th frame without cutting the negative.
But all and all nice scanner for $140.
