Hi,

I am interested in purchasing an Apple iPOD. The gadget is very cool
and much needed since my old discman died, however I am on a tight
budget.

I am interested in purchasing the 3rd Gen 15gig version or the Apple
iPOD mini. The 3rd gen 15gig is about $235 while the mini is $250.

Can anyone point out the major difference between the 3rd and the 4th
generation iPOD and if its worth paying more for the 20gig 4th
generation, or just getting the 3rd generation ones while they are a
good deal.

Thank you.

Sincerely,
George Bozovic

4th gen has slicker interface and better battery - definitely worth it.

yeah the 3rd generation was basically an unsuccessfull cost-cutting
exercise. The 2nd generation got it right, and the 4th just restores
what I got with my 10GB 2nd gen. Could certainly use the better
battery and energy savings though...

There is virutally no difference.

I should expand a little.  The difference is probably worth the extra
$60 or however much extra you will pay.  But not so much more worth it
that you'd be stupid to buy a 3G iPod.  It's a slippery slope - any
extra money you put in is probably "worth it", but if budget is a
concern, I think you would be very happy with a 3G or even a 2G iPod.

Actually, I can't remember which G is which :)  But the ones with a dock
connector adds a very nice convenience.  I keep mine connected to my
stereo, and use it to play music from my iPod in my living area and it
sounds fantastic.

Click wheel operation for all functions (except the hold function) as opposed
to a scroll wheel and 4 individual function buttons.

I just got a refurb 3rd gen10 gig from Apple for $169 which is an awesome price
on a superb piece of hardware.....That said, after seeing and using a 4th gen
at an Apple Dealer my 3rd Gen iPod felt clumsy and akward to operate.

Is the 4th gen worth it.....only you can answer that question however be aware
that the 4th gen 20 gig model does not come with some of the accessories you
may get with the 3rd gen 15 gig iPod.

The number of accessories is close to mind boggling and they can add up quick.
I've spent close to $130 accessorizing my $169 iPod :)

Good luck,

Doug

I think the 4th generation ipod would be better, for its longer battery
life and surely apple will keep updating its ipod software to provide
more functions
