hello-

i have a dual 2 ghz g5, that came standard with 512Mb of RAM. I
recently bought a pair of Corsair 512Mb ram sticks. They are pc3200,
and i have installed them in the lowest-numbered slot, as per apple's
website. however, when the computer is rebooted it does not recognize
those 2 ram chips. It still says "512Mb" on the two ports that already
had the ram in them, but an "empty" message is displayed next to all
other ports.

on a minor note (or possibly a quite major one)- they both say
"mechanical sample" on them. does this mean they are for display
purposes only? the guy at compusa told me no, but i trust the users in
this forum more than those guys.

please help and thanks,
jeff

"Mechanical sample" means that the device is a non functionnal but
accurate replica of the real device. You go get a manager and get the
guy who sold you that crap fired.
