Please don't SHOUT by using all caps. Try Edit-Replace. Type a hyphen in the
find box and nothing in the second box. You may have to reformat the result
to show leading zeros. Try the custom format "000-00-0000" to display the
number with the hyphens.

... Or it could be that the cells are already formatted as Format> Cells>
Custom - Social Security Number, in which case it's a matter of applying a
different format, such as Text or General.

I tried it, but it didn't work. I tried the second person's suggestion and that didn't work either. I could get rid of the hyphens, but not the space the hyphen had occupied. I finally decided to attack the spreadsheet a different way, leaving out the SS#s entirely. It was accepted by the State Dept., so all is good again.

Well, if you tried it and it didn't work, you did not follow my directions
properly; it works fine. But, I'm glad you got the result you needed.
