Excel date maths

Operating System: Mac OS X 10.5 (Leopard)
Processor: Intel

I have various spreadsheets where I have been using the difference between two dates to obtain the number of days between the two dates.
From update 11.4.1 this no longer works. Instead of the number of days I get the error message #VALUE!
Any help?
