Hi everyone,

I cannot access the chart options feature in my charts. When I try to access "Chart options" it is deselected.

Not sure what you mean by "chart options feature".

Do you mean the Chart Options pane in the Formatting Palette?

If so, do you have a chart selected?

Yes, I mean the Chart Options pane in the Formatting Palette. I cannot access anything regarding inserting titles, changing the grid lines, legend location, etc.

I have the graph selected and I am "right clicking" (option clicking?) in what I believe to be the correct area. I have tried to do this all over the graph. I know that when I clicked in the same area in Office 2004 the Chart Options pane would have been accessible.

Is the worksheet protected?

No. I only just installed Office 2008. This is the first graph in the first worksheet I have started.

Just select the chart by clicking on its border. Are the chart options still
unavailable?

Can you email me the sheet so I can take a look?

I'm having the same problem and it is most frustrating. I can't edit "series 1" "series 2" etc to have meaningful names.

So do I. In all workbooks. the chart options feature is always greyed out. eg i do a new workbook, type a few numbers, make a chart with them, on the sheet, then select the chart, right click and i see the chart options on the right click menu but it's greyed out. this means i can't for example add titles or a legend. very frustrating. was not resolved by the service pack.

Actually i found a way. Show the formatting palette (View->formatting palette) and there you will found pretty much all that you had in 'chart options' still @£$@£$@$EFESC stupid to have the option greyed out from the right click menu....

I appreciate everyone who reported this information.  The issues where Chart
Options not being easily discoverable (can only see in Formatting Palette
while chart is selected) and the disabled Chart Options contextual menu item
in Excel 2008 are being investigated.  I'm glad you found these options in
the Formatting Palette.
