How are you sending them? What does "can't read the files" mean? Is there an
error? What is the error? How are they trying to open the files - double
click or file-Open?

Hi, I have a similar problem. After installing the 11.4.1 (080219)
update, I am unable to open an excel file sent to me by email (other,
older files open fine). Excel starts up OK, but no file data appears.
A progress bar momentarily flashes, but nothing else happens. The
system console reports the following error:
3/26/08 9:07:10 AM [0x0-0x42042].com.microsoft.Excel[494] monitor:
task_for_pid failed (os/kern) failure
This sounds similar to gle's problem. I'm running OS X 10.5.1 on a new
Mac Desktop (2 x 3 GHz Quad-Core Intel; 2 GB RAM). Any thoughts?
Thanks.

Hi,
Your file is probably corrupt or damaged. I think you can try a
utility called Advanced Excel Repair to repair your Excel xls file. It
works rather well for my corrupt Excel xls files. Its web address is
http://www.datanumen.com/aer/ Hope this helps.

Alan, you're an idiot.

Actually, I think Alan is a web crawler:-) I've been tempted to send them a
message through their web site but I'm afraid I'll contract an incurable
Asian plague worse than what we had to contend with in '69... And I'm sure
it would serve no purpose whatsoever.
