Excel 2008: Borders (dotted lines) aren't  printed out correctly

I have a problem with the print result of dotted borders, especially the finest ones. The result is that some borders are printed correctly as they show in the display, others randomly come out with non-dotted borders. The case is the same with PDF outputs - look differently depending on the magnification, but still have incorrect drawings. Also, changing the Print Quality under the Page Setup or the printer resolution in the print dialog (600-1200 dpi) doesn't solve the problem.

Is this normal? - I mean, does anyone have the same problem?

The finest dotted border used to be printed as the thinest non-dotted line out of my HP LaserJet 4200 (FastRes 1200 dpi) from Excel 2004 regardless the Mac OS version.

If this is not resolved, I have to change all of my 2004 sheets to use the thiner and thicker non-dotted borders, which is not realistic.

Please advice me.

I can't replicate this, but I also don't have a printer with that
resolution.

Given that all print functions are handled by the OS, the only thing I
can suggest is updating your print driver (or choosing another).

I have the same issue.

Prior to 2004, the default border style always looked best. This changed in 2004. However, the "dotted" style in the Format Cells/Border tab was a good work around. This worked because it printed a solid black line.

Now the "dotted" style has an unprofessional look. Further, the thinest border style looks way too think.

Please let me know if there is anything that can be done to provide a narrow border line (hairline).

thanks
