Default new workbook, can't get rid of sheets

The workbook file in startup items, the one without the .xls that makes new
workbooks defaults to a workbook with 3 sheets. I tried, but can't get rid
of sheet, ie, I've opened the file, deleted sheets, saved to desktop, and
replaced the three sheet file, to no avail. Any ideas? Thanks.

Did you save it *as a template* named "Workbook" (no quotes, no
extensions) in the Startup Folder?

If so, have you set an Alternate Startup folder (in which case the
default template should go there)?

Thanks JE, yes in startup, just as you describe, no extension, no quotes.

Not aware of an alternate.

The alternate would have been set in Preferences/General/Alternate
Startup Folder...

Did you confirm that you saved the file *as a template*?

Also look in Excel preferences on the General tab - at the top of the second
section for sheets in New workbook. I haven't tested this, but it may
override the number of sheets in the workbook template.
