I have been using the new Excel for about a week, and have had it crash on me several times, or "quit unexpectedly" as we say these days. It seems to happen immediately after an autosave. When I say several times, I mean 4 times in the last two hours, and about that many times again over the last 2 days (but only using it for short periods over last two days).
It would be great if this could be fixed, because I hate to lose data.
I was planning to recommend Office 2008 to the other members of my firm, but would have second thoughts about doing so until this bug (and any others) are worked out.

It is more than just Auto saves. At least your Office only quits on you, mine is bringing down my whole system.
I can understand that after 4 years of development that there may be some issues but this latest offing is pretty poor. Graphically it is better but in terms of reliability is is pretty poor.
Not impressed.

Does Office behave the same way in a new user account?
"Bringing down (your) whole system" sounds more like a System problem -
there's no way an application should be able to do that in a properly
operating environment.
