Let me guess: you are using a Brother-Printer?

Have you checked the mfr's web site to see if there is an update for your
printer driver? Something that often gets overlooked, but the OS offers a
number of different print services so just because one app prints OK using
the older driver doesn't mean *every* app will.

Also, repairing disk permissions can be helpful, so you might also give that
a try - especially if you do have to install a driver update.

One other point you don't mention is your update level for Office. Make sure
you've applied all updates by using the Check for Updates feature in the
Help menu of any Office app or by going to the Mactopia\Downloads web site.

I just downloaded office again and installed all the latest updates.
Still have the same problem. Yes it is a brother printer. I have a
Canon Pixma MP830 that I will hookup and try.  I will also update the
drivers for the brother printer and see if that solves the problem.
What do you mean by "repairing disk permissions"?

In order to regain the flow here I've posted my response at the bottom, but
regardless of one's personal position re top- v. bottom-posting, the
accepted practice in these groups is to comply with the established pattern
in the thread. IOW, since my reply was top-posted your response should have
been top-posted [above mine rather than below your own] as well in order to
avoid a hopscotch pattern which is very difficult for anyone to follow:-)

Repair Disk Permissions is a feature within a utility program called Disk
Utility which is supplied with OS X. It should be used any time you install
new software or updates to the OS and/or most applications programs. It's
also one of the first troubleshooting steps for many of the problems that
occur. Information is available in Mac Help on where to find it & how to use
it - which isn't difficult.

BTW - reinstalling Office most frequently does *nothing* to correct problems
because the programs themselves rarely break - it is usually support files
which cause the problems and those don't get touched when you reinstall -
ergo the problem remains. If it *is* ever necessary to reinstall it should
only be done after an appropriate removal using the Remove Office utility.
Otherwise reinstalling can actually complicate many issues.

Hi Bob,

Unlike the lucky individual above, I cannot afford a new printer. I am running leopard, Office 2004, and a Brother MFC-5440CN....and I cannot get my excel documents to print. I tried repairing permissions, and that did not work. :frown:
CyberTaz - 30 May 2008 07:03 GMT
Sorry, Kathie, but you've submitted your message as a reply to a thread that
died 6 months ago. Consequently there is nothing in your post that gives
anyone a clue to go on.

Please submit a new message and provide the information needed for an issue
of this nature:

Exact version of Office: Exact version of OS X... "Leopard" and "Office
2004" are simply not specific enough to be useful.

What *does* happen when you try to print? Is this with one file or with
every file? Did this start recently? What else happened around the same time
that may have triggered the onset of the problem... Security update, new
software???

Without that information the only thing I can suggest is that you check the
Brother site for an updated driver.
